Summer to Winter, Altitude Sickness and Great Views

So we arrive in La Paz airport at 5am in the morning. First thing that hits you, as I was told, is the difference in the air. Breathing becomes very shallow as you suddenly go from London to 3000+ meters above sea level. Quite literally, 20 seconds walking up a small hill (a slope) and everyone is out of breath, and can feel their heart pounding inside. bit of a difference to the norm!

The other thing is that it's freezing! Who knew that England would be hotter than South America?! the scene from cool runnings runs through my mind of going from Jamaica to Canada and putting every layer you own in your luggage just to stay warm.

The journey to the place where we are for the first week takes us around La Paz with incredible views of mountains, sunrise and a the densely packed city. But it provide beatuiful views all day long.

Night in El Alto. People live way up high!

Also after a couple of days feeling smug from not suffering from the altitute.. it hit me. All day in bed, headaches and throwing up 4 times in one day... great... so glad i will be living in Cochabamba...
